Regina & Yorkton Wedding Photographer – Country Wedding in QuAppelle, SK

What a awesome day for Ashley and Joe’s wedding, the weather was great for a late October day. After the getting ready and ceremony photos were done, we were heading out of QuAppelle to their farm and came across a amazing background for some photos. As soon as I saw it, we stopped them to do some photos with dad’s fire engine red restored old Mercury truck. A farmer was burning off his field and the smoke was billowing all around, it was Awesome!! They love the photos.
We continued on to do family and wedding party pic’s. They recently just moved their new home onto the farm site, so we used the cows for some backdrops as the ground wasn’t to level yet.
It was a beautiful area with all the golden hay bails still out in the fields. Here’s a few pic’s from their day.

A little info from Ashley about how they met and the proposal:

My brother Evan and Joe were best friends growing up. So me and Joe knew each other all through growing up. We lived four miles apart. It had been a few years since we had seen each other, as he went to Saskatoon, I finished high school and went to school in moose jaw. I was home for the weekend and Joe was done school and working as a mechanic in Fort Qu’Appelle. Evan needed an expert help to fix his car (I believe to replace an engine), so Joe was out helping for a couple weekends. My family jokes that Joe was coming over to see me more then help Evan. Joe and Evan agree that they both got what they wanted out of the deal. Being friends and all, Joe didn’t feel that he could ask his friends little sister out on a date. So it took a few weeks later to get the courage. Evan takes credit for setting us up as he gave Joe permission to ask me out.
Joe plucked up the courage and sent me this text ” I hear your back at home all summer, we should get together and party some time”. The funny part is, is that Joe and I don’t drink, or party. I replied “Call it a date, and I’m in”. Our first date was at DQ. Hence why we will have a sundae bar at the hall, plus we both love ice cream. Its our addiction. our first year of dating we went out a lot, and ate a lot of ice cream. My little brother Matthew, joked that going for “ice cream” meant making out. I guess the sad part is, is that we were going for ice cream.. we love food! After I completed my work term and my marketing course at SIAST, we found a little hole in the ground to call our first home. we had been dating for about two years at this point and had already received some pressure from Joe’s loving mother “when are you going to marry that girl” for the last year. Which I found very flattering. Moving in together was a huge change and assurance that we could be together for the rest of our lives.
It was a huge hurdle for us to get used to living together day in day out. What I love about Joe is he is very patient and funny. Which made it easy for us to find our own way of living together. our basement suite was not very nice but we made it our own. Soon after we started looking at dogs. Joe was hesitant but I was super exited. We ended up finding Bruce, a puggle (pug/beagle). I loved him instantaneously, Joe not so much. He was a handful. Wasn’t leash trained and we were having trouble leaving him alone. But we were able to find that he loved to be in a kennel and got a harness to help with the walking. Joe still wasn’t overally attached to Bruce. For our vacation that year we went camping and took Bruce. Bruce just wanted to cuddle Joe the whole trip and Joe fell in love with him. Joe always says ” I have never had a dog that wants to be around me so much”. The three of us continued on, developing a routine and finding ways to make every day fun. We had talked about us wanting to build a house early on in the relationship. Joe would regularly look at house plans to see what we like. One work night I was in bed trying to sleep while Joe was looking at house plans. He called me over, I was annoyed because I wanted to sleep. He found the most beautiful house plan, with a wrap around porch, balcony, spacious concept, and vaulted ceilings farm house. We knew instantly that was it. We talked about marriage and spending our life together very frequently while dating.
I had made it clear that we wouldn’t build a house until we were engaged. So I waited (and Joe sweated). I knew Joe wanted to get married, there was no pressure in that. But there was pressure to find the right ring. If you know anything about Joe, is he thinks everything out and takes his time. There is no rush decisions. He had looked all over the city for the right ring and new that he wasn’t to spend too much (as Ashley didn’t want an expensive ring and would make him send it back). He also surprised me in the mall once and a while to go “look” at rings to see if I liked any. So he had found the ring, eventually… now he had to plan the actually down on one knee event. His plan was to ask me to marry him in our future yard. We were putting up a fence to segregate the farm yard from the house yard. That was the moment he was going to ask. He had waited four months for the right moment. He had to get the ring cleaned he waited so long.
The moment had come until his parents drove in the yard. I had no idea. So plan B. In Joe’s words “I had to get it out of my pocket.” I remember he was so nervous the next day. He wanted to make it special but was nervous because it wasn’t the original plan. We went to Wascana park in Regina where he asked me to marry him. Maybe the moment wasn’t how he planned it but I love the story behind it. He wanted to make the moment special and he did by trying so hard. So we were engaged, and the whirl wind of house building began. With lots of frustration, excitement, and new experiences. I wont go into great deal about the house but it was a great experience. We recently had our new home placed on the foundation. Joe was amazing. There was a lot of pressure and he was doing most of the organizing and dealing with the contractors. I know if I was doing it, it wouldn’t have gone very well.
So we recently moved into our house and now we are onto the next step of life’s journey.
